LAPD SHOOTS DOG 13 TIMES
On April 6, 2026, an LAPD officer fatally shot and killed Mama, a female pit bull from Sun Valley. According to multiple news sources, the incident occurred while LAPD was responding to a bomb threat in the area, after a suspicious package was found in a vehicle, according to multiple news sources. Tenants of the mobile homes in the area were instructed to evacuate. “Officers encountered a vicious dog that attacked one of the officers,” which resulted in the pit bull being shot and killed according to Lt. Bruce Coss. One week later, Los Angeles animal activist Michael Urrutia interviewed Mama’s owners, Humberto Vidaurri and Chankara Beshay, in their home in Sun Valley. In the interview, Vidaurri described Mama as loving, loyal, and his “right hand.” He also stated, “I would feed her before I would feed myself.” Beshay criticized the media’s coverage of the incident for emphasizing that they were homeless. “What does being homeless have to do with anything?” Beshay said. “It’s a person’s dog. What does that mean? Does it matter less?” When Urrutia asked what message the couple would like to send to LAPD and the community, Vidaurri firmly stated, “Stop the killing. Animals’ lives matter too.” Vidaurri also stated that the police officer shot Mama approximately 9–13 times. Mama’s deceased body is currently in LAPD custody.
